Saramat 'Tou' Ruchkaew had a successful marketing career in Thailand before she moved to Australia and became one of the NT's biggest mango growers.

Three decades ago Saramat "Tou" Ruchkaew swapped her corporate heels in Bangkok for boots and went on to become one the Northern Territory's biggest mango grower s.

"The higher you go, you're going to be the nicest person in town, because when you drop you have more people to pick you up," she said.She was working in marketing in Thailand when she fell in love with an Australian, who was working there running his own business. Worried about who was going "to put food on the table", Ian helped on the weekend but continued working full time at the Department of Agriculture for 11 years until the farm could support them both.They moved into exporting in 2009 and New Zealand became their biggest buyer, as they steadily supplied more fruit to the domestic market."They're the epitome of start small, grow big," he said.
