Manus Island detainee Abdulaziz_Ada details the impact of six years of Australia's offshore detention policy at the UN

A Manus Island detainee who won an international human rights award has addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Speaking on behalf of the Human Rights Law Centre, the 25-year-old said: “After 6 years, we deserve our lives back and a future. We urge your mandates to take this up with the Australian government, which deserves to be held accountable by this Council.” He said the impact of six years of Australia's offshore detention policy had exacted a physical and mental toll.
