"This is a major, major storm," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday morning."It's something that we knew would be significant with the strengthening of this over the last night ... It potentially could make landfall as a Category 5." The hurricane tore across Cuba on Tuesday, leaving 11 million without electricity.
The center of the storm will make landfall later today, likely somewhere between Tampa and Fort Myers, slowly moving across the central Florida peninsula into Thursday. Much of Florida was already experiencing impacts overnight, and there were several tornado warnings.at 4:40 a.m. PST"catastrophic storm surge flooding" is likely in some areas of southwest Florida and shared a map showing the storm surge impact around the perimeter of the state.
