Monday’s annual “March for Life” means nothing since it doesn’t address the biggest threat to life of born and unborn alike: climate change.

The annual “March for Life” means nothing since it doesn’t address the biggest threat to life of born and unborn alike: climate change. While many religious communities, including Catholics, purport to defend human life and dignity, they ignore human-caused climate change that is already killing millions worldwide from drought, flooding, famine, and disease. Most of these are the poor and vulnerable, including infants, who have contributed least to the climate crisis.

Therefore, those who call themselves “pro-life,” who are predominately conservative, must necessarily vote for the environment that supports all life. And government leaders and candidates who claim to defend life must necessarily support climate action, including renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure and transportation, and participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative . These actions are not part of a so-called “liberal agenda,” but critical to really defend innocent life.
