Her latest Chanel moment feels thematically aligned with the acclaimed, Damien Chazelle-directed film, featuring a textural bodice and voluminous bottom slightly reminiscent of flapper dresses from the movie’s 1920s setting. Robbie’s red-carpet look involved over 750 hours of work carefully executed by Chanel artisans. The flared custom-made dress features light pink chantilly lace and silk tulle with a chevron motif embellished with sequins, bugle beads, and pinches of feathers. If the dress feels slightly familiar that’s because it’s inspired by a look featured in Chanel’s fall 2022 haute couture collection, designed by creative director Virginie Viard.
“It was exciting working with Chanel to make this custom look,” Kate Young, Margot Robbie’s stylist, tells. She says the knockout dress has been a months-in-the-making process, with discussions about the ensemble starting last fall. “We met in September in Paris while we were all at a photoshoot." The result is precisely the kind of effortless and prim fashion Robbie often finds herself attracted to. Robbie accessorized tonight’s dress with 18K white gold and diamond earrings, a brooch, and ring all by Chanel. With wavy blonde locks and a classic red lip to complete the look, Robbie was all smiles as she walked the red carpet. The Old Hollywood callback was more than a befitting moment for one of New Hollywood’s most exciting faces.
