Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has avoided giving his thoughts on Donald Trump, after Anthony Albanese's previous comments on the then president resurfaced.
Defence Minister Richard Marles has sidestepped answering his direct thoughts on Donald Trump after being grilled over old footage of Anthony Albanese admitting the then president scared"the s***" out of him.Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has avoided giving his thoughts on Donald Trump , after Anthony Albanese 's previous comments on the then president resurfaced.
"We have an alliance with the US, we’ve got to deal with him, but that doesn’t mean that you’re uncritical about it," he said. Mr Marles appeared on Sunrise on Tuesday morning where he was grilled by host Matt Shirvington about the Prime Minister's resurfaced comments, as he posed the question on what an Australian alliance with the US would look like if Mr Albanese was"scared" of Trump.
"We are very confident that no matter who wins the election this week, Australia's alliance with the United States will remain strong and the major equities that we have in that alliance - for example AUKUS and acquiring our future submarines - that that will remain on track. "If he is the next president of the United States, we will work very closely with him as we will if it's president Harris. This is a relationship which genuinely transcends the individuals involved, the political parties," he said.
