Who should be the Maroons next coach... or coaches? 🤨🔴🤔 9WWOS NRL
, who will decide whether to formally appoint the legendary Maroons figure as Paul Green's replacement. The QRL is keen to establish a coaching tree that will see Slater take charge of the team while having the option of leaning on an experienced advisor like Wayne Bennett, and are set to name their coach by Friday, News Corp reports.
Bringing in a seasoned campaigner like Bennett would be a "wonderful" idea according to NRL guru Phil GouldBennett, who turns 72 in January, has no interest interest in succeeding Green but it's believed he may be open to a coaching-director's role to smooth Slater's transition. "It'd be wonderful. I love all the old Origin players jumping in to help out coaching with the team. A lot of them are doing it and you don't even know they're there."
While the Origin series doesn't take up the entire NRL season, Slater would need to divert plenty of time to the role, according to NSW coach Brad Fittler.
