BREAKING: Billy Slater’s only changes for Origin II have been forced through injury as one of Queensland’s most familiar faces is left in clubland.
Queensland have handed Origin recalls to Xavier Coates, Jeremiah Nanai and Moeaki Fotuaika for game two as veteran enforcer Felise Kaufusi misses out.
A recurring hip injury for Selwyn Cobbo, which was picked up in Origin I and exacerbated in Brisbane’s win over Newcastle on Saturday, has ruled the Broncos flyer out and gifted Coates a Maroons call-up. Nanai returns after suspension ruled him out of game one, beating Kaufusi to the back-row spot and putting the 31-year-old’s Origin career on hold after 14 appearances for his state.
Cobbo’s ongoing issue, Tom Gilbert’s season-ending shoulder injury and Jai Arrow’s ankle surgery have prompted the only changes for Queensland coach Billy Slater, who has also named uncapped Raiders middle Corey Horsbourgh as 19th man.
