One fan said they got £34,000 after taking his advice
Money saving expert Martin Lewis admitted to becoming teary as he shared an emotional message at the start of Good Morning Britain. The finance journalist was reunited with co-host Susanna Reid for 'Wallet Wednesday' during the July 19 show.
Just minutes after the ITV show began, Martin asked co-host Susanna Reid if he could "do an aside", after noting "Wallet Wednesday" always falls on the day new inflation figures are released. "I'll be honest," he continued, "I had some tears in my eyes last night - I've had a stressful couple of weeks and I got a lovely message...
Martin went on to explain how the fan - whose name he didn't reveal as they wanted to remain anonymous - saw information in May from him about a change in the law that now allows claims from unmarried parents. Martin's Money Saving Expert site notes it's worth applying to have applications back dated.
Martin then urged viewers watching at home: "If you know someone who has someone since 2001 and is a parent with young children, they may be able to claim something even if they weren't married. It runs out in February next year. [This wasn't on the agenda to talk about this morning but I had to talk about it. Spread the word people."
