You have just one day to use up your clubcard points
More than a third of households in the UK are being warned to check if they have any outstanding Tesco Clubcard vouchers to use up, with millions of pounds of free cash set to disappear at midnight tonight . Money SavingExpert founder Martin Lewis warned in his weekly email that shoppers should check 'urgently' if they have any, as they do not have long to claim.
Tesco's 21 million Clubcard members build up points as they spend money in-store, which are in turn gifted as money off vouchers for common household and grocery items. When used together, these can knock a serious amount of money off your grocery bill, so it is worth checking to see if you have any outstanding that could expire tonight.
The supermarket giant estimates that £17 million worth of vouchers are set to disappear at midnight, but many shoppers might not even know they have any. It is relatively simple to check, as you can see all of your vouchers, even the ones you lost down the back of the settee, in the Tesco Clubcard app or on the website.
These vouchers are valid for two years, so there is a chance you have just forgotten that you had it, but you do not have long left to use it up, unless you're willing to game the system. MoneySavingExpert advised: "If your Clubcard vouchers are due to expire and you don't want to use them yet, you may be able to extend the expiry date by another two years.
Technically, under the Clubcard T&Cs, Tesco can refuse a Reward Partner order if it decides you're trying to game the system by redeeming vouchers just to extend their validity – but we tested the trick at MSE Towers this month and it worked just fine."Or, you can convert your Clubcard vouchers into a new voucher to be spent with one of Tesco's Rewards partners, which extends the lifespan of your voucher by another six months.
