The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is 16 percent faster than the 7950X in games
Its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, also saw a big boost to games, but due to significantly lower frequencies too, it was often slower than much cheaper processors in non-gaming tasks.
Critically, unlike the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D doesn't seem to be much slower than the Ryzen 9 7950X outside of games. Due to high operating temperatures with the 3D V-Cache stacked on top of existing components in the processor die, AMD had to reign in frequencies for the older X3D processor.
This meant that if you needed a great all-rounder or were a casual gamer, but needed decent multi-threaded performance, other processors would be a better option. Above we can see Geekbench and Cinebench scores from the leak. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D doesn't fall that fat behind the Ryzen 9 7950X in multi-threaded workloads, although the Core i9-13900K was noticeably faster in Cinebench - this figure was obtained using my own test system rather than AMD's numbers.
The results above point at the Ryzen 9 7950X3D being a fantastic all-rounder. You'd hope so too with its $699 price tag, but if you want the best gaming CPU and one that can beat anything except the Core i9-13900K and Ryzen 9 7950X in multi-threaded workloads, this could be the CPU for you.along with the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D following in April.
