Firefighters are battling a huge blaze at a golf course in Victoria’s Yarra Valley region. Country Fire Association and Fire Rescue Victoria units responded to a structure fire at The Eastern Golf Club in Yering at about 1.43pm on Monday. Ambulance Victoria and police also attended. The club was evacuated safely.
However, it is “well alight”, according to the CFA. No injuries have been reported. “A community advice warning has been issued for smoke in the area,” CFA said. The incident is ongoing. The 27-hole golf course was designed by legendary Aussie golfer Greg Norman, who won two majors and 20 PGA Tour tournaments. The Eastern Golf Club is a private member golf club which also offers retreats for its players.
