Millions of Victorians no longer have to worry about carrying around a physical card to prove their driving credentials, with digital driver licences now available in the state.
The Allan government confirmed on Monday that more than 4.5 million motorists were eligible to download their licence on their phone, following a trial of the measure.
"Our Digital Driver Licences will make it easier for Victorians when they go about their day-to-day lives – whether that's driving around, renting a car, collecting a parcel, or visiting a licensed venue," Roads Minister Melissa Horne said. Following a successful trial, digital driver licences will soon be available in the Service Victoria and myVicRoads apps this May to all Victorian full licence holders, motorcyclists, and heavy vehicle operators.A dynamic hologram and a timed QR code are key features of the digital card"so businesses and authorities can scan to verify authenticity and prevent fraudulent use".
