A $1 million reward has been offered as police desperately try and track down the individuals behind a drive-by shooting in Melbourne which killed an underworld figure.
Victoria Police have put a $1 million reward on the table as they investigate the death of an underworld figure following a drive-by shooting which"involved a confronting level of public violence".
A stolen grey Toyota Prado pulled up alongside the pair near busy Chapel Street about 11.37pm, with a passenger inside the vehicle firing a number of shots in their direction. Mohammad Keshtiar died in hospital after being shot multiple times as he walked along Almeida Crescent in South Yarra. The vehicle then fled the area, with CCTV footage capturing the car travelling north on Chapel Street and then east on Alexandra Avenue towards affluent Toorak.
Keshtiar, also known as"Afghan Ali", was considered one of the most powerful Middle-Eastern organised crime figures, the Herald Sun reported last year.Detective Inspector Dean Thomas, Homicide Squad, said Mr Keshtiar's organised crime links"added complexity to the investigation and our lines of enquiry, including determining a motive".
