Matildas captain Sam Kerr continues to be recognised for her on-field performances after being nominated for the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
The Chelsea star was chosen by a panel of current and former professionals, coaches and journalists as one of five nominees along with Aitana Bonmati , Mary Earps , Alexandra Popp and Fridolina Rolfö .Kerr’s year included being part of a Matildas squad that reached the FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-finals, and she also helped Chelsea win the English Women’s Super League title and the Women’s FA Cup.

At Chelsea we’ve been lucky to win enough to grab a few trophies.Kerr also said she hoped the Matildas would be “remembered forever” and “inspire the nation to believe in women’s football” for their memorable World Cup effort on home soil.
