The Matildas have drawn 1-1 with a tenacious China side in their Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier at Parramatta Stadium, thanks to a brilliant injury-time goal from midfielder Emily van Egmond.
China was the dominant side for much of the game, and looked to have scored a winner when Tang Jiali scored in the 86th minute, only for Australia's attack to go into overdrive in the closing stages, resulting in Van Egmond's late, late intervention. With a slightly superior goal difference in the qualifying group, the result means the Matildas will now play off against Vietnam for a spot at Tokyo 2020, rather than the more daunting task of playing South Korea, which China now faces.
