Matildas star Katrina Gorry was a notable absentee, but Courtney Nevin made it out for a 30-minute cameo as Leicester City thumped West Ham 5-2 in the women’s Perth International Football Cup. In Sunday’s third versus fourth play-off, Leicester scored three goals in the first half and led 5-0 late before West Ham substitute Viviane Asseyi struck in the 90th and 96th minutes.
Leicester were able to bury most of their best chances in a one-sided first half. Noemie Mouchon set up the opening goal in the 10th minute when she stripped her opponent of the ball and raced into the box before squaring a pass to Yuka Momiki for an easy tap-in. A brilliant double save from West Ham goalkeeper Kinga Szemik momentarily kept Leicester at bay in the 20th minute, but it didn’t take long for the floodgates to open.
