Liberal sources have told Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson that part of the reason Matt Kean is not seeking leadership in New South Wales is because he wants to explore federal options.
“He could stand in Bradfield with Paul Fletcher expected to retire at some point soon,” Markson said.
“The pre-selection process here would be more challenging for Kean because there are more conservative branch members.“This seat was held by Trent Zimmerman before the Liberal Party lost it to an independent.”“In the future, Gladys Berejiklian, Mike Baird and Dominic Perrottet could all end up running for federal NSW seats, if that's what they wanted,” she said.
NSW Liberal heavyweight Michael Photios echoed the point earlier on AM Agenda when asked about Labor and Chris Minns’ victory. “It’s not so much the landslide that we saw federally or in Queensland or Western Australia or Victoria when there were changes of government,” he said.“Labor will end up having a number of seats in the high 40s and the Coalition will have 30s.
“That’s a completely different landscape to what you’ve seen in Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.”
