There is an expectation for The Batman 2 to be bigger and better than the original, and Matt Reeves already proved that he can actually do that.
The Batman - Part II could be bigger and better than The Batman, and Matt Reeves has already proved how he can make this happen. Matt Reeves took control of Batman's cinematic future a few years ago and crafted a new world for the Dark Knight to exist in. The Batman set up a franchise that is separate from Warner Bros.' DC shared universe where Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne is the central focus.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Batman 2 is still years away, but there is already plenty of pressure on the film to be an even bigger success. There is always a certain amount of pressure on sequels to increase the scope of the story, earn more at the box office, and garner more positive reviews - all so the franchise can live on.
Matt Reeves’ Planet of the Apes Movies Massively Expanded The World Matt Reeves already has experience working with sequels and franchises before The Batman 2 happens thanks to Planet of the Apes. The director took over Fox's live-action reboot of the franchise in the 2010s with the second installment, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The film was a massive hit both critically and commercially, allowing Reeves to return to make War for the Planet of the Apes a few years later.
Through the Planet of the Apes sequels, Matt Reeves gained experience building out worlds and mythology in a similar capacity as what he can do with The Batman 2. He used each of his movies to introduce more ape colonies and explore the war raging between the intellectual apes and humanity. This strategy allowed his Planet of the Apes movies to receive even better reviews than the predecessors.
The Batman 2’s Bigger Scope Would Be Good For Reeves’ Franchise Plans The idea that The Batman 2 needs to be bigger also works in hand with Matt Reeves' plans for the franchise. The Batman Saga has multiple projects in various phases of development, so the director increasing the scope of the story with more world-building makes sense. It gives the sequel an opportunity to plant seeds for other parts of his franchise plan and open up the sandbox even more for other creative opportunities.
