Photocredit: Mattel. It’s happened again: A major manufacturer of children’s entertainment and learning products is releasing a version of a popular toy or game using Braille along with print, thus enabling blind people of all ages to play and learn alongside sighted people.
These are exciting and important steps that will help increase Braille literacy among blind people while enhancing awareness and appreciation of Braille in society at large.
Mark Riccobono, the NFB’s president, says Mattel approached the organization more than a year ago to consult on its plan of developing Braille Uno “because the company recognized the importance of incorporating the authentic perspective of blind people” from the start of the project.
