Steve Smith could be given the chance to stake his claim as Australia’s T20 opener, with the veteran to stay in India for five matches after the Cricket World Cup in a series that will be captained by veteran keeper Matthew Wade. Smith was on Saturday named in a 15-man squad for five T20s against India in late November and early December, alongside David Warner.
Glenn Maxwell leads Australia to thumping World Cup win. Australia’s first-choice fast-bowling cartel will all skip the series to return home to prepare for the Test summer, as will allrounders Mitch Marsh and Cameron Green. That will leave Matthew Wade to lead the side, with Travis Head the only other Test player to remain behind in India for the series.
