HISD teachers are being paid to help review curriculum and Superintendent Mike Miles intends to solicit feedback from teachers on curriculum materials.
Houston ISD Superintendent Mike Miles is reviewing and taking steps to improve the curriculum development process after an inappropriate reading passage for eighth grade students circulated Tuesday night on social media. 'Let me begin by assuring parents and families that the curriculum and lessons given to our students will be age-appropriate and meet the high standards that I set when I was appointed in June,' Miles wrote in a statement.
' Miles has long emphasized high-quality instruction as a cornerstone of his efforts to reform academic achievement in HISD, but some teachers and students have spoken out in recent weeks about frequent errors, inaccuracies and delays in distributing the standardized lessons plans from the district. One former curriculum writer said the new lessons appear to be hastily written by people with little experience or training.
