The Mazda 2 no longer offers a manual gearbox option, marking another step in Mazda Australia's shift towards automatic transmissions. The base model's price also increases significantly, while the range is streamlined to just two trims.
Mazda Australia has ended the manual transmission option for the base Mazda 2. This follows a trend of removing the manual gearbox from several models in recent years, including the Mazda 3, CX-30, CX-3, and CX-5. The BT-50 ute and MX-5 sports car remain the only Mazda s available with a manual transmission in Australia. The Mazda 2 range has been simplified from four to two trim levels, with the Pure and Pure SP discontinued for the 2025 model year.
Consequently, the starting price has increased to $26,990 before on-road costs for the Evolve, a rise of $4120 compared to the previous Pure model. Prices have also risen across the entire lineup, ranging from $120 for the GT to $620 for the Evolve. Even in its Evolve configuration, the Mazda 2 is now more expensive than both the new MG3 and Suzuki Swift Hybrid. Alongside the range restructuring, the 2025 Mazda 2 receives two new safety features: Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) and Smart Brake Support (SBS), which represents an advanced form of autonomous emergency braking (AEB). The base Evolve model also features new 16-inch black alloy wheels. Mechanically, the Mazda 2 remains unchanged apart from the removal of the manual transmission and continues to be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine
