Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that he will introduce his own resolution urging President Donald Trump to end the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria.

McConnell added that he was “encouraged” by media reports that the Trump administration is considering keeping a military presence Syria to maintain pressure on ISIS. Trump’s move to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria earlier this month incited rare GOP revolt against his administration. McConnell penned an op-ed in the Washington Post Friday calling the decision a “grave mistake” – though he did not mention Trump by name -- while Sen. Lindsey Graham has introduced new sanctions on Turkey with Sen. Chris Van Hollen .
