McCullers, Javier readjusting to familiar roles
Although the loss fell more squarely on the shoulders of Houston’s inept offense, there are lessons to be learned for the two pitchers who are each readjusting to familiar roles.
"It's just frustrating for me,” he said. “You put a lot of work in, watch a lot of film. The coaches are watching a lot of film, they're game planning and then you get into the game and it's like, I might as well just throw lefty." “I’m half like, ‘Well, I battled, you know,’ and then half like, ‘Kind of sucked, too,’” he said. “I felt like I didn't really have anywhere to go tonight. In previous starts, it's like, ‘Oh, this isn't good. That isn't good. But I have other weapons.’ And then you kind of play the game with those two and hope the other kind of come along. Tonight it was like, ‘All right, didn't land the curveball, go to the cutter. Didn't land the cutter, let's go to the changeup.
“Health is not really a concern. I think at this point it’s reps,” he said. “I'm having really good bullpens and good throwing sessions midweek and then it's just not translated with the game. So just kind of keep grinding and hopefully it clicks.”
