At least a dozen new staff at the McDonald’s Chatswood store in Sydney have scored a $1000 bonus after signing up to work, as the fast food chain resorts to big cash incentives to win staff.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Sunday announced funding for another 1000 student nurse jobs – to add to 3000 roles already funded – and said they had pinched many of these students from McDonald’s.“There’s nothing wrong with working at McDonald’s, don’t misinterpret me,” he said. “The two student nurses we’ve just spoken to, one was a manager at McDonald’s, they’ve replaced that part-time job – as valuable and important as that is – with a part-time start on their career.
Job ads are up in most sectors; accounting is up 34 per cent year-on-year, education is up 39 per cent, hospitality and tourism 32 per cent, and manufacturing, transport and logistics are up 28 per cent.
