Staff at McDonald’s in Glengormley will be wearing odd socks to mark World Down Syndrome Day and show respect for their colleague with the condition. This is the first time the restaurant has done something like this, inspired by the positive impact of their employee Peter Neill, who has Down Syndrome.

Staff at McDonald’s in Glengormley will be donning t-shirts and odd socks this Thursday to mark World Down Syndrome Day .

Business Manager Ryan Mayrs, whose restaurant is behind the unique local initiative, said he wanted to raise awareness in the community of the condition. Down Syndrome, also known as Trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. “I love working here. Everyone is so friendly, and I have been able to meet new people and make a lot of friends,” he said.
