The fast food chain will shut its restaurants to allow staff to pay their respects
The nation has been in mourning since Her Majesty died last Thursday at the age of 96. The state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
McDonald's has taken to Twitter to confirm restaurants will shut as a mark of respect. It said: "All of our UK restaurants will be closed on Monday until 5pm, to allow everyone at McDonald’s to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."King Charles III confirmed the day of the funeral will be a bank holiday. The day of the funeral will be a Day of National Mourning and many places across the country will close as a mark of respect.
However, there is no legal requirement for employers to give staff the day off. This means it will be up to the discretion of the pub owners whether their establishment will stay open. Buckingham Palace has confirmed it is the wish of the new King that the period of mourning will continue until seven days after the Queen's funeral.
