Mark McGowan says he has no concerns about WA's standing among tourists after a two year border closure, saying the state has a reputation for 'having handled COVID the best in the world'.
The Premier said he could not predict when interstate and overseas tourism will return to pre-COVID levels but the state government was investing in initiatives to entice tourists to Western Australia.
"Because we've gone through COVID with the strongest economy and the strongest finances we have better capacity to invest in those things than other states and other countries." Mr McGowan has announced a $72 million assistance package for businesses most impacted by the restrictions. There are 16 patients in hospital with COVID-19 but Mr McGowan expects hospitalisations to rise rapidly.
