Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has weighed in on the current energy crisis and said calls to expand the state's domestic gas reserve nationally was 'silly'.

Labor has been under fire since last week’s federal budget which confirmed energy prices will rise by 56 per cent and gas is set to rise by 44 per cent over two years.

While energy prices are expected to skyrocket across the country, power bills in WA are set to rise by just 2.5 per cent next year.

“The opposite occurred…we’ve had huge investment...and we’ve had enough supply for the domestic market both for consumers and for industries," the WA Premier said. A national gas reserve would mean a percentage of Australia’s gas can not be sold to overseas markets and would instead be released into the domestic market.
