AFL: Despite a solid opening quarter, Port Adelaide succumb to a phenomenal Collingwood performance at the MCG in round 6.

Prior to a demolition of Port Adelaide that signalled to the AFL that Collingwood’s premiership defence is back on track, coach Craig McRae underlined the phrase “ style points ” on the whiteboard. Will Hoskin-Elliott sparked a surge in the second term with two superb marks deserving of the highest of style points while Nick Daicos was among the Magpies to dominate.

“We’re just in the process of trying to get 14 wins, because that’s the number we think will make the finals. That’s all that matters right now.”After dropping the first three matches in their premiership defence, Collingwood are not yet back in the eight. For the first 20 minutes on Saturday they looked like they were still enjoying the break, but after getting a toehold late in the first term, Collingwood seized complete control.

“We’re not here to make excuses for them, but right now to have a couple of extra days to get mind and body ready, we felt that on Monday when they burst into work and got to training, that ‘OK. There is a bounce in their step’.
