A recent traveler from Southeast Asia who visited multiple locations in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, last week has tested positive for measles. NSW Health issued a public health alert , advising anyone who visited certain venues between December 16 and 17 to be vigilant for symptoms.
These locations include Byron Bay Beach, Coffs Central Shopping Centre, Woolworths at Park Avenue in Coffs Harbour, Newcastle Bogey Hole Pool, The Grand Hotel, McDonald's at the Liverpool Mega Centre, BP Truck Stop in Normanhurst, and Bungonia Campground. Measles symptoms typically appear 3 to 18 days after exposure and include fever, sore eyes, cough, and a red, blotchy rash that spreads across the body. NSW Health recommends that anyone who visited these locations and develops symptoms should contact their doctor immediately. It also urges all residents to ensure they are up-to-date on their measles vaccinations
