What 9.7 million Medibank customers need to do immediately after Russian hackers leaked stolen data on the dark web under 'good' and 'naughty' lists on Wednesday.
Mr Long also revealed the “clearly sophisticated” hackers had posted their correspondence with Medibank in the weeks following the cyber attack.
“A little bit of panic from the hackers and in the end an ultimatum on Monday just past and Medibank closing it out saying we’re not going to pay the ransom it’s not government policy and we don’t intend to do so.” Mr Long said the communication he had seen between Medibank and the hackers looked like the private health insurer was “stretching the negotiation time and trying to buy more time in the process”.
“They’re worried that their deadline is too far out so they’re like well we’re going to release it anyway.”
