Hackers who accessed the customer records of 9.7 million Medibank Private customers claim to have released another cache of sensitive data on Monday morning relating to the mental health of certain policyholders.
Medibank faces a fiery annual meeting on Wednesday where shareholders get to question the board members and executives about the attack.“There is some more records for everybody to know,” they wrote in a blog update. “Anyone who downloads this data from the dark web, which is more complicated than searching for information in a public internet forum and attempts to profit from it is committing a crime,” he said.Medibank has confirmed details of almost 500,000 health claims were stolen, along with personal information, after the group hacked into its system last month.
“It may be the case that in due course, the board and executive team will require renewal to a) bolster its skills and knowledge of cyber security and b) show accountability for the loss of privacy to its customers and the loss of value to Medibank shareholders,” said CGI. “Companies that hold their customers’ sensitive health information have an important obligation to make sure that information is safeguarded, commensurate with the sensitivity of that data,” he said.
