The Pregnant Women's Medicaid Program introduces longer coverage and higher income limits.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On January 31 the Alaska Department of Health announced coverage changes to the Pregnant Women Medicaid program, in what the DOH calls “a significant step toward enhancing maternal healthcare access” beginning on February 1.
These changes follow from Senate Bill 58, introduced by Governor Mike Dunleavy during the last legislative session and signed into law on October 16, 2023. Commissioner Heidi Hedberg said the extra 10 months of postpartum care available will help mothers during a crucial phase. The Department of Health also says raising the income limit for pregnant women’s coverage will enable potentially “thousands of additional recipients” to benefit.
