The only thing better than a new pair of shoes is a ceramic replica of those very shoes!!!
I worked at a ceramics studio while I was in college and after graduation. And it was the summer after that that I was walking around the studio and I looked down at my feet and they were just covered in a bunch of clay and were super dirty. They were my studio shoes. And I had this thought, Oh, they look like they're ceramics. And then I was like, “I have to try and re-create one to see what it looks like!” And then I just kind of became obsessed.
So I just kept on making shoes after that and then was I was like, wait a second. It doesn't just have to be the ones that I own. It can be any shoes. That's also where the idea for my Instagram comes from too, where I pretend to be wearing some of them. It’s this idea of making something out of nothing.Maybe the sneakers. The detailing on the stitching or the laces and getting their shape right is harder for me than some of the other ones.
