An Indigenous man is standing by his controversial position as a “Lore Enforcement Officer” in regional New South Wales despite finding himself in disputes with police on several occasions.

Bruce Shillingsworth is a proud Muruwarri and Budjiti man and he rose to prominence for the establishment of"Tribal Lore Enforcement" alongside his father Bruce Shillingsworth Sr.

The video was filmed after police had directed him and others to leave over claims they were trespassing on land run by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.Tribal Lore Enforcement patrols about 200km of land in regional New South Wales. Picture: Facebook“This is Muruwarri land. From here onwards, this is traditional Aboriginal land,” he said.

"Lore Enforcement is privately funded and not reliant on external entities. It is run by Nations/communities that take part in protecting and assisting withinb community and Nation affairs," he said. "The misconception of police is they go outside their justification thinking they have authority over land however even in the Mabo High Court decision in 1992, over turned the very doctrine on which they thought they could colonise. The doctrine of Terra Nullius."
