I’m from a small country town, St. Martinville, La. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, dancing, cooking with my kids, watching science documentaries, the great outdoors, fishing, and trucking.: I was born and raised in Missouri City.
We were around 70 percent in each subject for district average test scores prior to the pandemic, and as of the beginning of this school year we were all the way down around 50 percent across the board. Those results also do not tell the full story. Students who were already struggling are doing a lot worse, and our outcome gaps have widened. We also have a teacher shortage combined with a high number of teachers leaving the profession, and many families are opting out of public schools.
