King Charles is said to have been taken aback by Meghan's response.
The days before the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry back in 2018 were overshadowed by various reported royal dramas. One centred on the father of the bride Thomas Markle, who had health troubles and was unable to fly to the UK.
It meant the only person in attendance from Meghan's family as the couple become The Duke and Duchess of Sussex was her mum Doria Ragland. With Thomas unable to be at St George's Chapel in Windsor, Meghan's soon to be father-in-law kindly stepped in and offered to walk her down the aisle instead. But the now King Charles is said to have been taken aback by Meghan's response. Her reply when he told he'd be honoured to escort her to the altar gave an insight into his son's "confident, independent" partner, reports The Mirror.
Prince Harry has praised his dad for stepping in. In a documentary marking Charles' 70th birthday, Harry said: "I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said 'Yes, of course, I'll do whatever Meghan needs, and I'm here to support you'. "For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know, he’s our father so of course he’s going to be there for us. I was very grateful for him to be able to do that."
