How do you adapt the unencumbered magic of anime for the stage?
In rehearsals, my director said we’re not trying to recreate the film or imitate the characters, we’re trying to get to their essence. So it’s not my job to pretend to be a four-year-old… her character is more than just that fact. She is really determined, really confident, super curious about the world, and also really scared.Family members said that I was a really curious, confident child, so in lots of ways I feel very connected to Mei.
