The Allan government will rein in infrastructure spending as part of a state budget which confirms Victoria's net debt is set to blow out to more than $180 billion.

"We're also responsibly managing our capital program, with new capital investment lower than recent years," he said in handing down his 10th budget, and the Allan government's first. While the Metro Tunnel, West Gate Tunnel and the North East Link are hurtling ahead, construction of a rail line to Melbourne Airport is still several years away.
The government's funding of its other main train project, the Suburban Rail Loop, has further been called into question. In addition to infrastructure cut backs, the government will also slash spending on advertising and decrease office costs by reducing its footprint. The government said"significant delays" and cost overruns had been identified due to"the work required to mitigate electromagnetic interference for the hospital's sensitive medical instruments", stemming from the nearby Metro Tunnel.
