Melbourne International Comedy Festival has said it is working towards planning a 'fitting tribute' to Barry Humphries after it copped backlash for failing to honour the legendary comic on the program's closing night.
Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has criticised the backflip, suggesting the festival had decided to"uncancel" Humphries due to his death.
"I really hope [Humphries'] family ask you not to proceed with this idea after the heartbreak you delivered him," he added. The festival had even stripped Humphries’ name from the event’s biggest award - known as the Barry Award - following outcry over his remarks. on Monday, MICF rejected claims it had"cancelled" Humphries and attributed the backlash to"misconceptions".
