Yarra City Council in Melbourne is pioneering a new approach to e-scooter and e-bike parking by implementing designated parking bays on footpaths. This initiative is the first of its kind in Victoria, aiming to curb sidewalk obstructions and promote safe and environmentally friendly transportation. The council plans to add 40 more parking spaces across Richmond, Abbotsford, and Fitzroy.

Lime, one of the two e-scooter and e-bike operators in Yarra, said the designated parking spaces will encourage more riders to opt for safe, environmentally-friendly transport. Nickless added: "From here the system will automatically send a fine or warning to the rider notifying them if the vehicle was parked poorly or if the image was not sufficient."She praised Yarra City Council for promoting "greener transport".
Lime and Neuron implemented this change using geofencing technology, which prevents riders from ending their trip on these sidewalks.
