All first-round picks received guaranteed NBA contracts for at least two years with an option for two further years. The NBL had a big night with 19-year-old Frenchman and Next Star signing Alex Sarr being selected by the Washington Wizards with the second pick in the draft and California-born AJ Johnson selected with the 23rd pick by the Milwaukee Bucks.
Sarr’s passage through the draft gave the Wildcats and the NBL huge publicity during the lead up and on draft night.Sarr, who is set to earn around US$9.3 million in his first season, paid an emotional tribute to his brother Olivier Sarr who plays with the Oklahoma City Thunder and went undrafted in his draft year.
“I went to his draft and know what it feels like to go undrafted, for me to be a top pick now is really special.”
