As a towering goal shooter, Emma Ryde is used to putting home the lion’s share of goals for her team, but on Saturday the netball player scored her 1000th goal in only 17 games – the most she has ever scored in one season.

When she had only one goal to go, she said she could see everyone around her was getting really excited and really rowdy. The opposing side even assisted Ryde score the final goal, as she caught the ball she said she thought to herself, “I am probably going to miss this goal”. Emma Ryde was back at practice on Monday after shooting her 1000th goal for the season on the weekend.As soon as the ball fell through the net, she said her teammates ran and hugged her.

Standing at almost two metres tall, Ryde said she is always interested to see what the next goalkeeper will try on her. “I think it’s great that the netball part of footy netball is finally getting a bit more recognition.”
