Not many 16-year-olds would happily trek for weeks on end at sky-high altitudes, and in blisteringly cold conditions, to reach a summit so high it's in the " death zone ".
The teenager left the 6,800-metre-high "camp three" at 6pm, and slowly slogged her way up through the night, battling nausea and a pounding head to reach the summit around 10am the next day. She finally arrived back at her tent 25 hours later.Instagram: bianca_adler1And while there was no shortage of challenges, climbing up the face of an enormous mountain in the dark was not as frightening as Bianca had first feared.
Unfortunately, her father Paul, an experienced mountaineer, didn't quite make the summit, as he began suffering snow blindness — a painful, temporary condition that is caused by overexposure to ultraviolet rays."It was before you would start to put your sunglasses on, but as soon as you could start to really see without using a head torch, he went pretty blind."
"She knows how to read our satellite tracker, and she knows exactly where we are. She knows where the dangerous parts are and what's not dangerous."Bianca's love for the mountains began when her family moved to the French Alps when she was about seven and stayed for years."So then we progressed into doing rock climbing and then small bits of mountaineering."
All up, Bianca and her dad will spend about eight weeks in Nepal, with a bit of schoolwork thrown in along the way.
