Melbourne teenager Bianca Jones has died in a Thailand hospital after consuming a cocktail suspected of being laced with methanol. The 19-year-old and her friend Holly Bowles, also 19, were among a group who fell sick during the mass poisoning incident in Laos last week. Jones’ family confirmed her death in a statement on Thursday. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that our beloved daughter and sister, Bianca Jones, has passed away,” a statement to the Herald Sun said.

“Right now our daughter remains in the intensive care unit in a critical condition. She’s on life support,” he said said. “We’d just like to thank everyone from back home for all the support and love that we’re receiving but we’d also like for people to appreciate right now we just need privacy so we can spend as much time as we can with Holly.” The best friends had been travelling through Southeast Asia while on a gap year. They had been planning the trip for years.
