Victory were also handed a suspended 10-point deduction that will come into effect if the club’s fans misbehave on game day across the next few seasons. The club said it will comply with all the sanctions but went over and above by announcing it will dissolve active support groups involved in the invasion.
“The club has strongly advocated to FA and the league over the few weeks to ensure both the final and interim sanctions imposed by FA acknowledge that what occurred at the derby was not reflective of the majority of our North End members or the broader Melbourne Victory fanbase.” Fans protest against the Australian Professional Leagues grand final decision at an A-league game last month. In a break from A-League tradition, the highest-ranked team will no longer earn the right to host the season decider in a move that was described as ‘one of the worst decisions made’.
