Irrigators and nature conservationists are urging the NSW government to implement recommendations made by the Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer to mitigate future fish kill events in Menindee.

It featured more than a dozen findings, including poor community communication, and found there was compromised water quality prior to 2023.

Dr Saunders said one of his main takeaways from the visit was the community's appreciation to see their concerns reflected in the report. While the findings would be covered in more detail in the full report, which was expected to be released later this month, Dr Saunders said many had been covered in reviews of previous fish kills.

The latest report laid out its own recommendations, such as improved emergency management and an overhaul of data collection, which included recognising community and traditional Aboriginal knowledge.
