'Mesmerising blend': Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No 2, 2022 outpaces the rest at James Halliday Wine Companion Awards
But perhaps the biggest upset came when Giant Steps from Healesville in Victoria beat top guns House of Arras and Brokenwood to snare the winery of the year title. The keenly fought red wine of the year title went to Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No 2, 2022. It turned out to be a mesmerising blend of shiraz , marsanne , mataro , and viognier from Yarra Valley fruit.
Not far behind them were some of the nation’s most collected examples: Torbreck Vintners The Laird, Grant Burge Filsell 100th Anniversary Limited Edition Shiraz 2012, Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyard Shiraz 2021, Penfolds Grange 2019, Mount Pleasant O.P. & O.H. Single Vineyard Shiraz 2022, Tahbilk 1860 Vines Shiraz 2020, Tyrrell’s Vat 9 Shiraz 2022 and Wolf Blass Platinum Label 2022.
